BOOKING CEEPHAX GIGS
This page is a general guide to what I'll need and stuff for a gig. It's pretty comprehensive to save time on the night worrying about a lamp or a plug adaptor and to save me saying the same stuff over and over in emails. It also serves me as a reminder sheet as to what I have to ask for and bring as my memory isn't always completely brilliant. But anyway don't worry, as long as there's a decent mixer, space to play, a place to stay, sound, beer and a fee it'll be OK. The fee depends on your gig, where it is, what it is etc. Making me an offer straight away is best. All travel and other expenses are on top of fee.

DJ SETS

For DJ sets I need 2 CDJs, two technics, one DJ mixer (Pioneer DJM600 style ones are favourite) a microphone and beer. I will bring my two tape decks too for cassette DJ-ing so the DJ mixer must have enough channels to accomodate 6 stereo inputs.

LIVE SETS

MY EQUIPMENT

Naturally I will be bringing most of the equipment. This will generally include:
2 x ROLAND TB-303
1 x ROLAND TR-909
1 x ROLAND TR-707
1 x ROLAND SH-101
1 x ENSONIQ SQ80
100's x LEADS AND POWER SUPPLIES
And occasionally other bits and bobs such as casio keyboards, a harmonica and sometimes my Amiga if there's new tunes on it. On non UK gigs it's better if possible to hire equipment as flying can cause it to be damaged. All of the above can be hired as I have memory RAMS and floppy disks with the patterns stored on them. The TB-303s don't need to be hired as they are portable and you can't transfer the memory anyway.

YOUR EQUIPMENT

1 x MICROPHONE
1 x CD PLAYER (CDJ or normal)
1 x MIXING DESK (see below)
1 x SPARE LEADS (useful if you have them)
1 x KEYBOARD STAND (if you have one it saves table space)
1 x LOTS OF TABLE SPACE (see below)
1 x LAMP (or adequate lighting so I can see my stuff)
etc x BEERS
2 x UK PLUG ADAPTORS IF OUT OF UK (well, I often forget mine anyway)..
+ anything else fun you can think of, Megaphone, Kazoo, Plasma Ball, food etc.
MIXING DESKS
I will need a 16 MONO channel mixer, it will have 16 faders unlike this yamaha desk on the right which says it has 16 but three are stereo channels which are useless to me. If in doubt simply count the faders, on this Yamaha there's only 12 channel faders. Below are some typical good ones, and also the crummy Berhinger mixers.
Massive old dusty mixers are a pain too.

MACKIE 1604
The trust machine, can't recall many problems with one of these and I've played with them all over the wuuurld...

SOUNDCRAFT FX16
This is what I've got at home, it's got lexicon effects innit which is handy, pretty tough, nice long flickable faders....

ALLEN&HEATH MIXWIZARD
Another toughey, but a bit more complex than a Mackie which can be confusing in the dark.

NO BERHINGERS PLEASE
Berhinger's are generally poor sound, cheapo mixers: they've caused me plenty gig problems.
SOUNDCHECK
A soundcheck is always handy, it takes on average an hour to set up with no problems and about 15-20 minutes to check the sound. Probably allow two hours before opening for sureity. I've done countless gigs without soundchecks and they've gone fine though. Please don't make me arrive over-early. It gives me far too much time to get pissed up before I play as there's nothing else to do.

TRAVEL IN UK
Travel in UK is currently by car due to my bringing excessive amounts of equipment.
TRAVEL IN EUROPE AND THE WORLD
Travel out of UK is by train, plane, boat etc. I won't fly short distances such as to France, Belgium, Holland etc. It's just unnecessary pollution and I generally avoid flying because they treat musical equipment (and everything else) so badly, that's why it's good to hire equipment in the country I'm playing and also to avoid baggage excesses.
BOOKING FLIGHTS
Stansted is my nearest airport. Heathrow and Gatwick are about the same distance. Please let me check the flight you are going to book before you book it.
Please don't book anything leaving in the morning unless you have to, the afternoon is much better and it means I won't be completely tired when I arrive.

FLIGHT BAGGAGE EXCESSES

My baggage altogether weighs around 45kg, that means usually an excess of 25kg over the standard allowance of 20kg at the average price of £5 per kg, which is £125 excess each way !!! Sometimes I'm lucky and don't have to pay for it, but nethertheless it is an expense which must potentially be paid for. Sometimes it may even be cheaper to pay for an extra person to come with me so that we can share the luggage and avoid the charges !!!!!!
ACCOMMODATION
I don't mind too much where I stay as long as there is a bed, a hotel is nice but only if it lets you stay till the afternoon, otherwise you end up getting chucked out early after sleeping about half an hour after the party. Not nice.

TABLE SPACE
I need a lot of table space for all my machines. Tables are better if they are high because I'm tall. Finally here are some pictures of some live sets to give you an idea of how much space to play I will need (basically a lot !!!!) Cheers and thanks for reading this boring shit !!!!!!!!!!!!! Now bring on the RAVE yeeeeeha !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !!
